HOUSE BURNT TO THE GROUND

(BT TELEGRAPH.—P&EBS ASSOCIATION.)

PAEROA, 29th December.

About 1 o'clock this morning a fire occurrred in a residence on Thames road; Paeroa, owned by Mrs: A. Black. Nothing was saved, and the house was burned to the ground inside an hour. The contents destroyed include a Broadwood grand piano and a number of valuable . pictures and curios. There was a small insurance -with the New Zealand Insurance Company.' The origin of the fire is a mystery, as the house had been unoccupied since 20th December, Mrs Black having left on that date to visit her son at Waipawa. The fire!brigade's efforts were hampered by a stiff nor-west breeze and lack of water there being only a two-inch main alonz Thames road. *
