VICE-REGAL.

The Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, unveiled the war memorial at Cambridge on Tuesday afternoon and His Excellency 'presented the prizes at the break-mg-up ceremony' of the lona College, Kawkes Bay, on Wednesday evening. He will perform a similar function at "Woodford House School on Saturday. On Sunday His Excellency will unveil-trie war memorial at Taradale, and pay a visit to the Old Peoples' Home at Parke Island.

Accompanied by the Hon. Myrtle and the Hon. Norah Jellicoe, His. Excellency will return to Auckland on Tuesday morning'nest.

Mr. Len Barnes arrived from Dunedin this morning by the Maori. Mr. Harold Whittle left by the Ulimaroa to-day for Sydney. -Mr.-W. if. G.'Bennett, manager of the Wellington Co-operative' Waterside Labour Employment Bureau, returned to Wellington yesterday afternoon after spending five weeks in Melbourne. Mr. P. O'Rourke, secretary of the A ew-Zealand Coal, Gold, Shale Quarry and Tunenl Workers' Federation, has returned from a visit to the Waikato district. Inspector C. R, Broberg, of the Police Commissioner's. Office, Wellington, lias been promoted, to ■Superintendent. He will remain in Wellington 1 on the staff of the Commissioner.

Mr. J. H. Richardson, retired Government Insurance Commissioner, has been _ appointed to' the Discharged Soldiers Dominion Revaluation Board under authority given, by. ' section 25 pt the Finance Act, 1923, which vested in the Government power to appoint Mr. Richardson to any board controlling public moneys.

The death occurred at Wellington Hos-pital-on Wednesday of a well-known and highly-respected member of the typographical- craft, Mr. A. Hawthorne. Deceased was one of W.. Beach's backers, and accompanied the famous sculler Home when he defeated' Edward Hanlon on the Thames more than-three decades ago. Ihe esteem i n which the late Mr. Hawthorne was held was manifested by the representative body of craftsmen who attended his funeral at- Karori Cemetery, this morning.
