PLAGUE OF LOCUSTS
BEYOND CONTROL IN SOUTH AFRICA.

CAPETO.WN, 13th December. The locust plague is beyond control. The Government, has already expended £100,000, but a large farmer in GriqualandWes4 reports- that the locusts are one thick mass, in the hopping stage. Cattle are in a desperate condition and the price of "mealies" is steadily rising. "The only power that can help us," said the farmer, "is Providence," and he advises the Government to spend no more money. •
