SINGAPORE SCHEME

NEW GOVERNMENT MAY

MODIFY.

(Received 10th December, 1 p.m.)

• SYDNEY, This Day. The "Sydney Morning Herald," commenting on the result, says that one of the matters involved in the elections is the Singapore base, which would be a valuable adjunct to the. defence of Australia. Labour is by no means enthusiastic about this base, and Mr. Asquith has deprecated its construction. Should a Government other than Conservative attain power it is conceivable that the scheme may be modified.
