NGAIO AFFAIRS

At a recent meeting of the executive of the Ngaip Progressive Association, gratification was expressed with the Railway Department in running the 7.30 p.m. train from Thorndon.

The secretary reported that preliminary matters ih connection with the hall had been concluded, and the City Council was making arrangements for taking a local poll for £5000.

Owing to the number of houses lately ■ erected in Makerua street, it was deI cided to ask {he council to instal another street light. Tenders for swings and see-saws for the rest park were accepted. The question of access to the Wadestown tram was discussed. It was pointed out. that the difficulty was that it would necessitatea traffic bridge, as a 'path would be>too precipitous. It was decided to ask the council to investigate the possibility of giving Ngaio tramway facilities via Kaiwarra by means of a trackless car.

The necessity of rounding off three sharp corners in Crofton Downs was emphasised. An endeavour is to be made, to have this done.

It was reported that the Director of Parks and Reserves had promised to have a path made to the stream in Trelissick Park before the ■ holidays. The executive considered it a matter of regret that no seats have been placed in Trelissick Park, especially as Ngaio has nowhere near . its quota of the "John Newton Bequest" seats. The reserves committee is to be approached again regarding the distribution of seats in Ngaio.
