(BT TBLEGKAPH.) 'HIOJ "SIR LANCKOT.")
PALMERSTON N., 6th December.
Perfect weather conditions prevailed ior the concluding day of the Woodville District Jockey Club Summer Meeting. The attendance showed a falling-off compared with the previous day. The totalisator turnover amounted, to £12,729, making £28,344 for^the meeting, an increase of £460 ;oh the 'previous- Summer Meeting. ■ •-= ...'..
SLING GAMP BEATEN.
All the seven acceptors for the Papatawa Hack Handicap Hurdles were paraded. Although raised '151b,;: Sling. Camp; ,was sent out a good^fayourite:- 'In the first part Toa Taua got a good break. He is evidently a poor stayer, as he was .easily caught three furlongs from home, and was somewhat easily beaten by Captain Sarto and Sling Camp, who reversed the positions of the previous day. Captain Sarto won with something in hand. He hails from New Plymouth, being owned by It. Johnston, who is also his trainer, and was ridden by Johnston's ton. The best Probate could do t was to get fifth. '" Santiago finished next to the placed division, but will have to improve before he can win a race.
IMPERIAL SPARK A WINNER.
All the ten acceptors for the Stewards' Hack Handicap were brought out. The Woodville-trained Bugle Note was backed down to level money. Imperial Spark began best, and, with a, furlong, gonej ,was showing the way to Atapo and Misgovern. At the bend Bugle' Note' and Waetea.; ; jhbyed' up,;to; ; the. leader.: Ih^ side the distance Bugle Note came through well, and, after a good finish, the judge declared for Imperial Spark, .wiffi Ihapatoa third. Waetea was followed home by Lady Waimangu. Imperial Spark is owned in Palmerston North, and is a stablemat* of CounUr Attack, both horses being trained by F>. Higgott at Otaki.
SPRINT RACE TO ISLAND.
i There were no defections from the Railway Handicap, ten' starting. The popular picks were Birkie and Civilform, this pair carrying about half the investments between them. When they settled down, Island, Chimera, and Birkie were \% the van. With half the journey gone Civilform and Mangawhero made an effort to get the leader. Island was first into the straight, and, being kept going, got the verdict from Birkie, with Sunart and Chimera handy. Crown Jet ,^as at the tail end of the field all the yjay. Island is trained by R. Hatch at Awapuni, for W. Higgins, of Wellington, who was not present to see his colours carried to the fore. Island is in at Dannevirke, and is liable to be rehandicapped. •
KING'S FOLLY SCORES.
.j There -were no defections from the Juvenile Handicap, twelve starting. King's Folly, a place-getter on the previous day, carried riearly half the money invested on the race. Lady Isinglass began best, and at the end of a furlong \vas leading Bright Sol and Bonideer. Ihe latter headed the other pair, and had a good break at half-way, but failed, to see the distance out. In the straight" King's Folly took charge, and won in attractive style from Lady Isinglass, who was unlucky enough to run second on both days. Lady Joyce did best of the others. Tutankhamen,:, a stablemate of the first, day's winner, making his first appearance; ran a fair race. Paula carried-the colours of her new owner, Mr. WpH-Edwards, of Wellington, for the' first: time in the race. The Trentham-trairied Twink again finished among the unplaced division. King's Folly is a full brother ,to Anomaly and is a atablemate of •Kazzle Dazzle.
GOTHARD -MEMORIAL.
AH started for \the Gothard Memorial except Megan. The twelve runners in eluded Mangawh'ero, who was unplaced in the sprint race earlier in' the day. lhe first day's winner, Crown Star, received most support; fbut he failed to get m the money.- -Mangawhew was rushed to tho:frdrit,' showing the way to Kahikatea and Counter Attack" passing the stand. Racing- along the back the last-named -moved up into second place but he' failed to reach the leader and dropped, back into the ruck. Admiral Coch-ington/put in a claim at the home bend, and finished well, but failed to reach his light-weighted opponent, :who also won on his second appearance at Ashhurst. ; Zircon (who was bracketed > with Bagdad) and Cold Steel did best of. the others. Mountain Crag again -failed, .and would appear to have trained;- off since Riccarton; Thoso that stuck to Mangawhero got a great price. " ■,;„;:..,;.„.,:.; ,-:._:; :...:.,
TELEGRAPH 'HACK- GOES TO ' CIVILITY.
All started for the Telegraph Hack • Handicap except.Merit. The short distance suited Civilityy who carried top •weight, and was backed down to a very short price. She;': began Bmartly, and had her opponents strung out before the straight was reached, winning with something to spare from Kilcoo"(a stablemate of Captain Sarto), with Stymie and Puketoi next. Civility carried nearly half the money on the race, and the good thing never looked iri doubt. i*ackejs r of;.the; second horse got more / than double Ithe amount those that supported the-jirinner got. ■ ■ ;
A^ TRENTHAM WINNER^
Hall Mark and Fleeting carried most money; of the seventeen runners for the Ruawhata Hack handicap. Hall Mark began* well, and was still in charge at ■ tiie home bend, where Fleeting and EoyaU Divorce were also well placed. In the pin home the latter drew away, and won by a fair margin from Fleetjng, who cut Hall Mark out for Becond place inside the distance. Kalakaua did best of-the others. Swallowflight, making his^only appearance at the meeting, ran-well enough to suggest he will win later on. Considering that he ran second on the opening day, the price Royal Divorce paid came as a surprise*' This was the imported horse's "first win. Stream and Lady Waimangu flnished.;among the -"also started" division. :. ■
THE CONCLUDING EVENT.
Sir : Fanciful and Good Mark were takenjout of the Gorge Handicap, leaving in only four runners. Quest (a stablejnate of the previous winner) •was best, backed. He jumped out well, and led Hallowroz along the back. The field closed up at the bend, and, after a good finish with' Happy Days, got the verdict. T. F. Quinlivan
took four horses to the meeting and won with three of them—a pretty good record.
