The elk, now the largest quadruped of Jjforth America, has now a special reservation in' Vancouver Island, where the Canadian Government is preserving; a larf^e herd of these animals to save them from extinction. The stickleback is a very voracious fish, In spite of its small size. A captive specimen under close observation was seen to devour 74 small dace, each about a quarter of an inch lons, in five hours, and 62 more' two days afterwards.
