_ Representatives of the Wellington Carnival and Advertising.Committee waited upon the Finance Committee of the City Council yesterday afternoon to ask that the council should reduce the charges which it proposed to-niake against the Carnival Committee for the use of Newtovm Park. Councillor W: J. Gaudin, who introduced the deputation, said that it was proposed to. spend £400, which the committee had miide in advertising Wellington at the British Empire Exhibition. Mr. D. J. M'Gowan asked that the proposed charge of 20 per cent of gross takings should b 6 reduced to a nominal charge, for the committee was working for Wellington, and meant to spend money in pushing Wellington.
