ACROSS THE OCEAN

RADIO VOICES FROM ENGLAND,

NEW YORK, 25th November. Wireless communication from England to America was successfully.arranged tonight for the first time. Radio broadcasting by arrangement ceased in the United States for an hour while eight British stations attempted east-bound communication. Receiving stations here heard a piano playing in Liverpool, calls of "Hello, America," and other signals very clearly. The tests will be repeated three times in tha coming week.

It is now some years since wirelessMorse, signals were Erst transmitted with low-power short-wave apparatus across the Atlantic. Since'then, the reception of American amateur telegraphy and broadcast telephony in Britain and Western Europe has become fairly common. For some reason not adequately explained, signals of similar strength sent from England, have not hitherto been heard in America, though American amateurs claim to have heard music from Portugal. The distance records . achieved acroßß the Atlantic cannot compare with those recorded in the Pacific area.
