LADDER PLAY AT THOENDON. Four important ladder matches were played on the Thorndon Olub courts, three singles and one doubles. The challengers were successful in two of the singles. D. France, who was placed 10th on the ladder, defeated N. R. Barkman, No. 6, 6-4, 6-0. L. Mayo, 14th on the ladder, played W. P. Hollings, 12th, and was defeated 6-2, 8-6, after a long and interesting game. R. R. Young, 16th on the ladder, was successful in his challenge of J. Edmonds, 15th, in two straight sets, which resulted 6-2, 9-7. •-.-.- ---• Wright and Pigon challenged L. and D. France in a doubles match for position on the ladder, and although they commenced well, were completely outclassed, being defeated in two straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. . - BROUGHAM' HILL CLUB, .•<..' Laws, to be won by the lady or gentleman winning most games for the season were commenced on Saturday. W. Hay and C. Kerr lead in their section with 34 games each, and among the ladies, Misses Wild, Kelly, Tracy, and D. Howe hare three wins each. The system of a time limit was introduced, and proved most- successful; Players must now come off the court at the end of twenty minutes' play, at which time a bell is rung. NEWTOWN CLUB HANDICAPS.
