SYDNEY, This Day. In the New South Wales Assembly, a Bill was introduced to regulate the opium traffic, providing for heavy fines, ranging from £1000 down for persons found with the drug or the owners of houses permitting opium smoking. In default of the payment of fines, it is proposed to impose sentences up to 10 years' imprisonment.
