RADIUM APPEAL

MEETING AT OTAKI MONDAY

/ EVENING.

The Radium (Radiation) Appeal Committee met last evening, when ' there were present:—Mr. F. Castle (in the chair), Dr. P. D. Cameron, Dr. A. Mao donald Wilson, Dr. E. M. L. Morgan, Dr. B. Ewen, Sir John Luke, Mr. C. H. Chapman, Mr. D. M'Gowan, Mr. W. Stuart Wilson, Mr. D. M'Laren, Mr. B. Egley, Mr. P. D. Barchara; Sir Maui Pomare, Minister of Public Health, wished the Appeal well, and enclosed a cheque for twenty-one guineas. He wrote: "I am glad to hear that an effort is to be made to enlist the sympathy of the public in the direction of raising money to provide a Radium Institute in connection with the' Wellington Hospital. There is no doubt that cancer is on the increase the world over, and every effort made with a hope of curing, or even relieving, its victims is worthy of the greatest support. I hope every good will attend your ,effort." The Otaki Borough Council notified that it would call a meeting for Monday, 19th November, in promotion of the Appeal, and asked for speakers. Dr. B. Ewen, Dr. E. M. L. Morgan, and Mr. C. H. Chapman will go, and Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., will be asked to join them.

The Inglewood Borough Council also replied sympathetically to the Appeal, and asked for speakers. It was suggested that Dr. Morgan and Mr. D. M'Gowan would be able to speak at Inglewood on 14th December.

Dr. Morgan reported that in addressing public meetings at New Plymouth, Eltham, and Hawera recently, he introduced the subject of the Radium Appeal. The Radium campaign was favourably commented on at these meetings, and ''the Mayor of New Plymouth, Mr. F. Wilson, was most sympathetic.
