PETONE CARNIVAL
The weekly meeting of the Petone Christmas Carnival executive was held last evening, presided over by the Mayor, Mr. J. W. M'Ewan. i The Petone Rowing Club offered its assistance in arranging a boating programme for Boxing Day, and suggested that the Star and Wellington Clubs should be ; asked for assistance. The Wellington Carnival Committee advised that it would arrange no counterattractions in Wellington during Christmas week. ■ . . It was arranged.to transpose the Boxing Day programme of Recreation Ground sports toNew Year's Day, thus opening the carnival with aquatic and seaside sports. Messrs. Allen (Central Bowling Club) and Walton (Petone Bowling Club) reported on the proposals for an artificial light bowling tournament on the two greens. Similar tennis and croquet tournaments will be held. The organiser, Mr. B. Ginger, was requested to interview Mr. Jay- and report on the lighting of the various grounds. The organiser also reported at length on the programmes for the various days. Among the matters left in tha hands of the organiser for inquiry were arranging for a marine explosion and for an evening boxing contest. An open-air concert on the Recreation Ground will be provided on the closing Wednesday ■ evening.
