Some-interesting-twvek.'wiork waa done at Riccarton on Saturday morning by
competitors engaged at the coming meeting. The outside of the course proper was available. Pilliewinkie, Kukume, and Deucalion were in the order named at the end of a mile gallop, the first-named taking lmin 44 2-ssec. Limelight,' alone, ran the same distance in lmin 42 3-ssec. The Polymnian was better than Red Wink in running a mile in lmin 44 3-5 < sec. ' Over the same distance, by himself, Winning Hit registered lmin 45 3-ssec. Ballymena was .doing better than Murihaupo at the. end of a mile, which took lmin 44 3-ssec. Prince Ferouz was better than Some Kid and Falstaff in running" a mile in lmin '46sec. One of the best performances was put up by Palestrina, who, with the assistance of Ardour, ran a mile and a half in 2min 41 2-ssec. Wink was better than Gay Juliet in running six furlongs in lmin 19 3-ssec. On the plough, Many Kittle left five furbngs behind in lmin 4 2-ssec Enthusiasm left a mile behind in lmin 44 2-ssec. Dame Straitlace was responsible for a mile gallop in lmin 45Eec. Sunny LocH was going better than Geramal at the end of six furlongs in lmin losec. Castellan, alone, ran a,mile in lmin 47 2-ssec.
