BOROUGH OF EASTBOURNE
MEETING OF COUNCIL.
The Eastbourne Borough Council held its monthly meeting last evening, under the chairmanship of the Mayor (Mr. F. H. Mather). The following were also present: Councillors Hi W. Shortt, C. Hartridge, H. M. Jones, JE. A. Dawson, C. Bowden, H. J. Levy, C. A. Marquis, and 0. Hull-Brown.
The general manager reported that the kerbing on Marine parade had been completed, and the road had also been widened. Patching had been done on the main road, street channels cleared, and sumps cleaned. During the coming month it is proposed to repair the drain at Mantell's corner, eiCct fascine opposite Eata street to prevent sand drift, and to commence road formation at north end of parade. The coal depot showed that sales for September totalled £72 13s, and the expenditure £80 13s. Building permits for the month totalled £840, including one small bungalow, making the total since Ist April £19,567, fees paid thereou amount-' ing to £47.

Councillor Bowden's notice of motion that all repair work be carried out by contract was defeated after' a lengthy discussion, in which the majority of the councillors expressed the , opinion that time and line" was a more satisfactory, method of carrying out any. works the council might have to undertake. Councillors Jones, Dawson, and Bowden were the only councillors to record their votes in favour of the contract system of carrying out works and repairs.
