CITY COUNCIL INVESTIGATION

PUBLIC INFORMATION WANTED.

The Wellington Civic League having before it the question of the activities of the committee, set up some time ago by the City Council to investigate. matters relating to the departmental administration, has forwarded to that committee the following letter, which is of general interest to all citizens. (Copy.) 39, Johnston street, Wellington. 13th October, 1923. P. O. Peterson, Esq., Secretary, Wellington City Council Departmental Investigation Committee, Wellington.

Dear Sir,—Your letter of the 11th inst. was laH before the council of my league on the evening of that date, and I was instructed to thank your committee for the information therein given.

I am further directed to respectfully make the following requests :— That information be made public—as is usually done—by advertisement, setting forth the scope of this investigation; the general order of procedure; the class of evidence which will be taken; the persons and societies from which evidence is desired.

In explanation of those requests I have to say chat the subject of this investigation has come before several of our municipal associations and representations have been made to the league which indicate that all are moving in the dark until the information we are now asking from your committee is supplied. "

At our last meeting the question was raised of receiving evidence from trade societies, as it was deemed that certain trades and industries are affectedly the bylaws and departmental administration of the City Council.
