SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION
The monthly meeting of the Sunday School Union was held last evening. There ' were thirty delegates present, the chair being occupied by the president, Mr. H. D. Grocott. Mr. W. E. Howe gave a report .of the recent "rally," which had been very successful. The chairman reported that the proposed recruiting campaign for new scholars was receiving the attention of a strong committee, representing the various churches and . the Salvation Army. In connection with the Rotary Club s week-end for boys, the union had issued a circular to all schools, asking them to include in the school session on Sunday, 21st inst., srjecial addresses on boys' welfare. It was resolved to accept the invitation received from Feilding to hold the Easter Convention there. An appeal was received from the World's S.S. Association for funds to help the -Japanese S.S. Association to rebuild the headquarters building, which was burnt down at the time the World's S.S. Association was holding its convention there in T920. It was decided to make an appeal to friends and to schools to subscribe to this object, as it was considered that in addition to the call of the Japanese for help in the misfortune of the loss of the fine building, many people would welcome this opportunity of showing sympathy with their Sunday school friends there in the earthquake disaster, and of helping forward the establishing- of Christian Sunday schools in the land, Sunday and Monday, 21st and 22nd October, are to be observed the world over as days of prayer for Sunday schools, and the union has made arrangements for the due observance of the days by special meetings on Sunday and an evening meeting on the Monday. Mr. •W." E. Howe was appointed the union's ■representative to a. teachers' convention to be held at Motueka on Labour Day, at which he is to give an address.
