MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Police and summons cases were dealt with by Mr. E. Page, S.M., at ths Magistrate's Court to-day. Two first offenders for drunkenness, who did not appear, were ordered to forfeit the amounts of their bail, 10s, in each case. Whilhillimina' Blink, making her second appearance for insobriety, was fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment, and on a further charge of committing a breach of her prohibition order, was fined a further 10s. John Joseph Kelly, also making his second appearance, wa s fined £1, in default, three days' imprisonment. .Edward Lintern, who admitted, being drunk while in charge of a carriage, waß fined £4.

A middle-aged labourer, named' William Brown, who was found sleeping out at Kaiwarra, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when • called upon, a condition being that he go away to wqrk in the country. For using obscene language, James Charles M'Aulay was fined £3, in default 14 days' imprisonment, and was also 'fined £1, in default 14 days' imprisonment, for assaulting Glady6 Bifcchie, by catching her by the arm. A remand until 17th inst., was granted in the case of Henry Boyden Moore, charged with forging a cheque for. £15, while Victor Henry Crawford, charged with the theft of &■ ring and money, valued at 17s 6d, the property of Eileen Gardiner, was remanded until the 19th inst.

Ernest Hadley, for committing a breach of his prohibition order, was fined £2j in default 14 days' imprisonment.

Each of the following defendants wag fined the maximum penalty for Sunday trading, £1 and costs:—Rachael Maud Wade, Hugh Austin, John Dixon Box, Bob Barnao, William Mawßon Chammen, Frank Clewer, Isabel Crome, Charles Henry Grounsell, senr... Hilda Holt, Augustus Hope, Alice Leatch, Elizabeth Little, Georgina Mong, and Frederick Wallis. '

Edward M'Elwain, who had commits ted a breach of his prohibition order, was fined £1 and costs.

The use of insulting language resulted in Edward John Ross being fined £1, and costs. *

M. Brassin and Co. and R. Martin and Co., Ltd., were each"• fined £5 and costs for failing to provide privy accommodation on their premises. R. JPratt and Sons were fined. £3 .and costs, and £1 and costs, on charges of failing to comply -with the Weights: and Measures Act, in regard to the sale oi coal. . ... .'".'■

A young man named. JameVSaniuel Montecino, who pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour, was fined £1 and costs. It was explained that another defendant, Herbert Albert' Eagle, who was fined £1 and costs for,using insulting words, had called Montecino an objectionable name, whereupon* th» latter struck him.
