ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION
A report of some interest was given at a recent meeting of the English -speaking Union regarding the effort to obtain^ some information about passports, and the requirements of the New ZeaJand and United States Governments, from those who travel, be they migrants or tourists. An effort is to be made to communicate with other branches of the E.S.U., with a view to promoting an approach to the Governments from the authorised quarters on the subject of revision and inquiry. It is hoped that a very good object will be attained in this direction. Mr. Caughley presided at the meeting in the absence of the chairman, Mr. C. D. Morpeth. The appointment of the organiser, Mr. W. R. Thompson, by a subcommittee was confirmed, and Mr. Thompson attended the meeting, and was introduced to the members of the committee. It is hoped that through the agency of this gentleman, the union will be brought before the citizens of Wellington, with the result that the membership will be largely increased, and the possibilities of work extended. The members are satisfied that the function of the union in making for understanding and friendliness among the English-speaking races is likely to assist materially in securing the peace of the world. It is hoped that those who are contemplating visits overseas, to places where the union exists, will make a point of joining the branch, so that introductions can be given, and the use of the well-arranged club, in London, and those in other places can be enjoyed.
