NEW ZEALAND WOOL COMMITTEE REPORT.
The New Zealand Wool Committee has received the .following cablegram from the British-Australian Wool Realisation. Association, London, dated Ist October, 1923:—.
"Sales closed Friday. Total catalogued 223,000 bales of all descriptions. Bawra offered 70,200 bales, all crossbred ;98 per cent, cleared. Free wool offered, 140,795 bales Australian end Cape, 80 per cent, cleared; 11,938 bales South America, 74 per' cent, cleared. Estimated purchases : America, 1000 bales; United Kingdom, 92,000 bales; Francs and Belgium, 60,000 bales; Alsace, 20,000 bales; Italy, 10,000 a bales; Germany, 5000 bales. Strong market, active competition, particularly from France. Closed with strong tone. Highest prices : Scoured merino, 60d; greasy, 36d. Now quote compared with closing rates last series :—Super merino, scoured, 5 per cent, dearer; super merino, greasy, par to 5 per cent, dearer; average merino, combing, 5 per cent, dearer; carbonising merino, 5 per cent dearer; fine crossbred, 5 per cent., occasionally li per cent, dearer; 46-48's New Zealand par to 5 per cent, dearer; 46-48 s suitable for Continent, 5 per cent, dearer; low crossbred, 5 per cent, dearer; merino lambs, par to 5 p«r cent, dearer; crossbred . lambs, 5 per cent, dearer.
