RESULTS OF OPENING DAY.

WANGANUI, 2nd October. The Wanganui Competitions commenced to-day. The entries are very satisfactory, and' there was a very large attendance of the public during the whole of the day and evening. Following are the principal results:— Contralto solo: Miss Lilian Hambley, 1; Miss Marjorie Allomes, 2; Miss Stella Ashmore, 3. Baritone or bass solo: J. Quinn, 1; Sydney Kendall, 2j William Smith (Inglewood), 3. Mezzo soprano solo: Miss Ivy Kendrick, 1; Miss Kreda Boagey IPatea), 2; Miss Bessie Sheehan (Stratford), 3. Shakespearian recitation (ladies): Miss Dons Symcßj lj Mm. Sedgwick, 2.
