[Dr. De Lautour was born in the Province of Bengal in 1951 and was the youngest son of the late Mr. Edward De Latour, formerly a Judge of the Supreme Court of India. He was educated in England, first at Cheltenham College, Gloucester, at Edinburgh University, where he matriculated, aiid finally at Kings College .Hospital, London. Shortly after gaining the degree of M.R.C.S. in 1877, he commenced practice 111 Yorkshire, and four years later came out to New Zealand. He first settled in Port Chalmers and later at Tapanui in. the Clutha district. He commenced practice in Dunedin in 1901. He took a keen interest in local affairs, and was a member of the Dunedin Licensinn- Committee..]
