HOCKEY SEASON CONCLUDED

WAIRARAPA DEFEAT WELLINGTON.

The bnght sunshine on Saturday afternoon alone was sufficient indication that the end of the hockey season has been reached. The ground at Karori on which the third-class game between Wellington and Wairarapa was played was hard and "fast," but weather conditions were not of the kind which are conducive of good hockey, and tho'wannth of the atmosphere made play for too exacting. A strenuously contested game, in which Wellington were on the aggressive most of the time, went to Wairarapa by 1 goal to nil. The teams were as follow:— Wellington: Crawford, Stewart, Ross, Sword, Barker, Judd, MacdonaW, West, Lord,- Seager, and M'Gavin. Wairarapa : Downes, Wallace, White, Fuller, Tilßon, Whitburn, M'Lean, Smith, Brookes, Sayers/ and Minifie. Quite a goodly portion of the game favoured Wellington, but the local boys, gaining- the opposing circle time and time again, lacked finish, and nullified their efforts by inaccurate shooting. It was this inability on the part of the forwards to take advantage of the numerous- openingu which their persistent attacks had made which lost the game for Wellington, though all credit is due to the visitors for their fine play and subsequent victory. Opening against the sun Wairarapa attacked vigorously, and after about fifteen minutes of play Savers was seen, in a lone-handed rally with Crawford, the Wellington goalie. The latter saved several shots well, but the visitor used his stick well, and finally was successful in scoring the one and only goal of the game, which ended, Wairarapa 1, Wellington 0. The visitors were entertained after the came and returned home yesterday.
