SOUTH WELLINGTON DEFEAT

THISTLE.

South Wellington surprised their supporters by defeating Thistle in the Victory Cup final at Athletic Park by one goal to nil. The game was very willing, and both sides came to near scoring on several occasions. Thistle played the first spell with the sun against them, and from the beginning it was evident that the result was going to be be strongly contested. South Wellington were in good form, and opened attacking on Thistle goal, but most of their shots went wide. Taylor, was sound in the backline defence, and was 'instrumental in saving his side on 'more than one occasion. The Thistle forwards retaliated, and play was fairly evenly distributed during the first spell. The South Wellington forward line was nippy and fast, and proved itself a dangerous combination. The only goal scored was netted in the first spell. South Wellington came down on to Thistle's goal, but Bwing saved. " The ball,: however, bounced from his hands towards Stocks, who happened to be coming through, and the latter scored with a fast shot. Despite the disadvantage, South' 'Wellington had in the second half-through 'a low sun, Thistle could not break through. They were near to scoring on more than one occasion, and play became exciting and feeling amorit; the spectators ran high.- Thistle made strenuous efforts to score up to final time, but without success.
