A DIFFICULTY AT NGAIO
Very satisfactory progress is being made with the preliminary work in connection with the Ncaio subway; the 350 ft culvert is now completed and levelling off has commenced, but a hitch has occurred, or at least has threatened to occur, in the building of a temporary bridging to support the railway lines while the City Council's men build the subway proper. The temporary support necessarily calls for piling but it appears that when a start was made by the Railway Department in their driving, rock was struck at no great depth, and it is probable that it will be necessary to cut through this bed io pain the required firmness'of support.
