A REMARKABLE ROUND
DUNCAN WINS PLAY-OFF.
In view of four players being level for the second place, in" the open championship, it was decided on Saturday evening to play them off over one round of medal play. This was played in perfect weather over the wee Vend. Two professionals, Hood (83, and Clements (84), dropped out. Duncan and Black again tied with 79, Duncan losing the lead by getting into a bunker and taking seven for the seventeenth, missing a two-foot putt, and also missing a similar putt on the last green. Black was offered the opportunity of leaving the position as a. tie, but suggested a play-off. Black started baddy in tho play-off, which was played in heavy rain, and a fairly strong head wind, and took 45 for nine holes. Duncan played his best recent game, and with magnificent short work, went out in 35, constituted of three fives, three fours, and two twos. Scoring was then level to the thirteenth, where Black picked up and went to congratulate Duncan as the winner. Duncan's fine exhibition was witnessed by a large number, in spite of the very- adverse conditions.
