MINERS GETTING PESSIMISTIC

WESTPORT, 15th September. lnere are no new developments in connection with the closure of the coal mines. A number of men, mostly single, have taken their departure by boat, and others are leaving on Monday morning by car for other parts oi the Dominion, intending to have a holiday while the mines are closed While some miners take a pessimistic view concerning the crisis, others are of opinion that within a fortnight negoltations will be opened with a view to a settlement.
Meantime railway services are being restricted to the minimum required for passenger and goods traffic, and coal supplies are coming from co-operative mines.
