A WIN FOR HUTT
League grounds 011 Saturday suffered considerably as a:result of the afternoon's rainfall, and several became almost unplayable. The Hutt-Newtown game, which, was played at Petone, attracted a surprisingly large number of spectators under- the conditions .prevailing. The grput^d was in a very bad state, but nevertheless play was (fast arid opell, the handling of the greasy ball' being o! a high order.: : Both sides threw the. ball about on every possible occasion, the very fine tackling preventing a' large score being registered. Newtown won the toss and played with the wind in their favour. Hutt attacked strongly, their backs ' showing good combination,, but the defence was sound. After a period of give-and-take play. Hutt were awarded a free kick. Cudby kicking a good goal. Newtown then took a hand, but their attack:broke down at the critical moment". Just .before half-time a long, loose rush by.-Hutfc enabled Cudby to score. * The ground by this time had. become a quagmire, making the ball very heavy and hard to handle. The only score registered in the second spell was a potted-goal l>y Cbrijfin. Newtown mnde many onslaughts'on the Hutt line, but the defence yr«s. too good. Mr. S. Henderson was referee.
