VOTERS MASSED BEHIND THE TREATY
REPUBLICANS AND THE OATH.
(KBUTKK'S TELEdRAII.>
LONDON, 2nd September. .. An official statement issued in Dublin declares that the Irish Free State ia massed behind the Treaty, for which 73 j per cent, of the million votes polled were ! cast. Ten of the principal irregular | leaders obtained only 63,000 votes, while j the Ministers responsible for the Government last year polled 134,000. The' " Republican Weekly Sinn Fein" declares that the election is " beneath contempt," and accuses the Government, among other things, of raiding election-rooms, arresting election agents, and firing on election meetings. There is talk of the Republicans reconsidering their decision not to take their seats in the Dail, though it is no tf explained how they can sit without taking the oath.' It is pointed out that if the Republicans were able, to take, their seats, they and the Labourites would form a formidable. Opposition.
