SUCCESSFUL DAIRYING
LARGE AVERAGES OF- BUTTER- . ■■ PAT. . • . CBT TBIIORAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) MORRINSVILLE, 3rd September. It has been contended that small farms yield the greater measure of success. Without in any way disputing the contention the following facts are given to show the excellent results which can be obtained by proper methods on a large holding. At Motumaoho, Mr. H. Manuel has one, of the largest and undoubtedly one of the most successful. dairy ' farms in the district. A total of 182 cows in two herds oh his 400-acre farm last season averaged 348J1b of butter-fat per cow. This average was attained despite the fact that a number of the cattle were afflicted with paralysis, which consideribly affected their milt yields. \The best individual yield was 7021b fat, while nearly half the herd gave 5001b . and over. The above achievement is more remarkable when it is known that no' registered pedigrees are included in the herd.
A portion of Mr. Manuel's property is on the edge of the Eureka Swamp, tlie land giving a wonderful growth of grass, and last season it has been found impossible to keep growth down.
