Mrs. Roscod Brunner, the. novelist,.re,; cently gave a luncheon at "the Lyceum" Club, Piccadilly, to Presswomen - and women occupied in public work. The object of the luncheon, said Lady Boyle, was that the women gathered together might indulge in a mental stocktaking/ In the new world of 1923 it had-been' found that there was nothing that coukL not be covered by .women's efforts, .andm time their contribution might be' directed in channels at present not defined. For the first time in history woman must take a pre-eminent part in the battle of life, and dnly by admitting the' beauty of truth and ' the power of knowledge could she play her part. Mrs. Champion de Crespigny said that while the single woman now enjoyed opportunities unthought of before to-day, the married woman of small means. led a life at home where her opportunities were cramped and nullified. While her work was as hard and important as anyone's, its value was not recognised. It had always been the joy and delight of a woman's life to serve, but she panted. to offer this gift of service with both' hands, and not to have it unfairly exacted.
