APPEAL TO LEAGUE OF NATIONS
GREEK NOTE HANDED IN
A bfOST URGENT MATTER.

M. Politis has handed to the Secretariat of the League of Nations a Greek Note asking for intervention in the dispute with Italy. At a public sitting of the Council of the League, the Secre-tary-General announced the receipt of documents relating to the Italian-Greek dispute, which it was most urgent the Council should consider. Greece had applied for the intervention under Articles 12 and 15 of the Covenant. '■•' ■ ■• '■■■:■
Signor Salandra., the Italian member of the Council, declared that nothing in Italy's attitude could, be regarded as a threat of war. -, .'•;' "-.-■,
. LONDON, Ist September.. The "Daily Telegraph's " Geneva correspondent states that the twenty-sixth-session of the League Council opened to-day. AH the members were present, except Signor Salandra, who is absent through indisposition. It is hoped Signor Salandra- will be able to attend oh Saturday, when the question will be raised of the League • taking up the Greco-Italian dispute. In view of Articles 11, and 12, the League must act unless, in the meantime, Greece and Italy reach a satisfactory settlement.
