ALLEGED USE OF KNIFE
That he had attacked his wife with a pocket knife, inflicting a severe wound in her wrist, was the allegation made ngain9t an elderly man named Charles Woodward; 72 years of age, who appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court on a charge of assaulting Anna Woodward so as to cause her actual bodily harm. Th§ position, according to Sub-Inspector Lander, was that the accused had been livincr apart from his wife for some time, and.nad re-, turned to Wellington yesterday from the South Island. He went to the residence of. the complainant in Bay road, Kilbirnie, and, refusing to leave, attacked her early this morning with a pocket knife. Four stitches had to be put in a wound in her wrist, and the accused was subsequently arrested >by Constable Condon. ' , 'Woodward, who was very unsteady on his feet arid had to be assisted into the dock, was remanded for a week, no application being made for bail.
