COMPETITIONS.

; Next Saturday the annual festival of tlid Wellington : Competitions Society commences at the Town Hall, and, judging by the number of entries received, tliis year's festival will' easily eclipse all previous efforts. The first festival of rthe society took place in February; 1919, .when the entries numbered 1534. Since that date: there has besn a gradual in crease, and last year's.total reached 2342, while this year there has, been a, further phenomenal increase of 675 ■-over last year's figures. . The judges ara as follow.:—Vocal .music, Mr. -Roland Foster, of the State Conservatorium of .Music, Sydney; instrumental music,'-Mr. W. Paget- Gale, of Dunedin; elocution, Mr.Harrison,. Sydney.; fancy dancing, Miss Bodley, of Hamilton, and late of London. Owing to the large number of entries, the society have found it necessary to engage an. additional hall for several days, and the public are advised'to procure a copy of the official 1 programme, and note the classes which will be decided in St J°hn s Schoolroom. The box plan for the whole season is Open afc: Tho Bristol.

There was an excellent attendance at the Ambassador last night, and many handsome frocks graced, the cabaret, where 'Egyptian Season is now in progress. ' The artistic decorative scheme is, truly Eastern and the musical programme appeals to all daiicing enthusiasts, and includes many favourite selections. .
