EMPRESS THEATRE.
"Brawn of the North" will receive ite final screening to-day ■ at . the Empress Theatre.' Brawn is the name given to a wonderful dog, (Strongheart, who .has been seen in many notable films), a wolf hound;.with almost human sagacity, and capacity 'for. loving' and hating. A Christie comedy, "Son of a Sheik," a Topical Budget and other features complete the bill. ' ■ "MINNIE." Leatrice Joy and' Matt Moore occupy the leading roles in "Minnie," a MarBhall Neilan production, which is to be the feature on the programme at the Empress Theatre to-morrow. It is said to be a real screen ehtertainmeut, with an excellent human story, and thrills in plenty, but its big quality is in its humorous situations. Marshall Neilan has taken life in a small town country hotel, and put the incidents of the screen in life-iike fashion. The story centres around Leatrice Joy as Minnie, the drudge in her father's hotel. Minnie is liomely, very homely, so much so that everybody tells her about her ugliness with a sneer. Minnie likes to dance, but she's clumsy. Minnie just loves to have a', beau, but the young men laugh and go elsewhere. That makes Minnie angry. She invents a lover. She writes loveletters to herself and drops them whera the gossips can find them. She writes passionate love-letters, which cause the gossips to raise their brows and murmur scandal. She sends herself flowers and big boxes of candy. But she overdoes the scheme. Her stepsister' demands that Minnie produce the wealthy, ardent lover. And the humour and tragedy of the story continue to a'fitting climax.
