THE FALL OF CUNO
UNDER SOCIALIST; PRESSURE
HANDS OF THE PARTY FORCED
BERLIN, 13th August. Tha Socialists, while strong enough to cause the fall of Eerr Cunp, are not strong enough to form their own Government. ''They seek rather a coalition i consisting of the present working coali- | tion of the German People's Party, the j Centre Party/ and tho Democrats, with a strong leaven of Socialists, holding atleaet three of the more important portfolios under the leadership of Herr Stresemann. The Socialists were not thirsting for the leadership under' the present appalling conditions,' but their hands were forced by the strong, persistent demands of responsible Labour and workers' leaders, who during the week beseiged the Reichstag, trade union headquarters, and offices of directorates of various undertakings, coupling with their clamour for more money demands for Herr ' Cuno's resignation. The Socialist Party's .resolution deposing Herr Cuno outlined tho policy which they are prepared to support as follows *:— Vigorous reform of the flnances vy contributions from trade and industry through the guaranteed mortgaging of real estate. : Restriction of inflation. The issue of a gold basis currency. Wages to be placed on a real value basis. .'.•..: — , An active foreign policy, with a solution of , reparations conditional upon the complete preservation of the nation and the sovereignty of the Republic. Application for membership of the ' League of Nations. ' - Dissociation of the Reichswehr from all illegal associations.
