"NO CONFIDENCE"

TROUBLE IN BOXING CIRCLES.

Strong exception to the decision of the Jiew Zealand Boxing Council to allow certain boxers who had not reached the finals in the North Island amateur, championships to compete in the approaching New Zealand -championships, was taken by members of the Wellington Boxing Association at a meeting held last evening. , The matter was fully discussed in committee, after which the following motion, moved by Mr. P. W. Woods, and seconded by Mr. 1/. Perry, was carried :—

- That-the Wellington Boxing Association views with concern the'effect the recent attitude of the New Zealand Boxing Council in regard to the forthcoming championships at Dunedin and the annual conference of associations is likely, to-have on the central control of the sport in thi Dominion. The rules governing control ;cf the sport are in a chaotic state, and the association considered it essential that all remits should havo been submitted ,to all associations with a view to their' attending the usual annual conference.. The association rsgrets that, despite repeated representations supported by resolution of th« North Island Associations' conference of delegates to the effect that an association conference, duly convened, is the only body with authority to . alter amend, add to the rules, or make regulations binding on associations, • the council has seen fit to ignore these representations, and has convened a conference of centre delegates, which is not provided for in the rules, and whose decisions cannot be binding on associations. Xne Wellington: Association affirms and supports the principle that the only conterence with executive powers is a conference of local associations duly convened, and regre'U to record that it no longer has any confidence in the council at present existing; and, with a view to obviating further delay in. securing the approval of all associations to rules lor the proper government and advancement of the sport, and to meet the position created by.the council's attitude is -forced' into- -the-position- of- suggesting that a special conference be convened immediately, and, if necessary, is prepared to act as. convener of such conference. '..• .

. The association's delegates to the nieetw g 1* n ew Ze^and'Council (Messrs. w r te W- G: L/ Mellish- and W. # .It. Talbot), were instructed to give their fullest support to a motion providing that the North Island champLs should meet only the South Island champions, and the runners-up in the North to meet the Southern runners-up
