BOXING
MEETING OF LOCAL ASSOCIATION.
The Wellington Boxing Association met last evening. Mr. R, W. M'Villy presiding. There also were present: Messrs. J. E. Staples, B. A. Guise, W. G. Mellish, E. Perry, E. A. Dawson, R. St. J. Beere, N. Coffey, P. W. Woods. W. W. Cook, H. Hull, and W. G. Talbot (secretary). The report of Mr. P. W. Woods, manager of _ the Wellington team which competed in the North Island championship meeting, was adopted. Votes of thanks were accorded the Napier Association for its courteous treatment of the local boys, and Mr. Woods, whose negotiations had met with general approval. . For some considerable time a movement has been on foot to arrange for a championship meeting for the secondary schools of Wellington, and. in this connection a handsome rose bowl haß been presented to tha association by Mr- A. P. Whatman for competition among the local colleges. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the donor, and a sub-com-mittee, consisting of. Messrs. Woods. Cook, Guise, and Talbot, was set up to make the necessary arrangements and bring down a. report on the matter. ■A letter was received from the Wellesley College, asking for a donation of trophies in connection with their annual boxing tournament. It was decided that Messrs. Perry and Coffey should make a report on the matter at "the next meeting.
Messrs. Perry and Coffey also were asked to report on a gymnasium opened by D. Murphy, who applied for registration under the association.
A letter was received from H.M.S. Chatham stating that as that vessel would be in Wellington about 10th November, the men would like the association to arrange for a tournament about that date. The matter was left to the Match Committee.
The manager of the professional heavyweight, Jim Sullivan, wrote asking for a match with Jim Flett, Paul M'Quarrie, Tom Heeney, or Brian M'Cleary. The letter was referred to the Match Committee.
An application for a match with either Fairhall or Demsky at catch-weights, -was made by Clarrie Blackburn. This letter also was left to the Match Committee.
It was decided to donate £5 5s to the Eastern Harbour Amateur Sports Club. '
