TWO CARS FALL INTO RIVER 'BED.

• CHRISTCHURCH, 13th August. Two motor-cars went over a bank into the Kowii.river bed on the Mount trrey. Downs road, last night. The bridge formerly there was washed ay/ay by 'the floods in May. The drivers of the cars were Messrs. C. Voice and A. Elliott (both of Colombo street, Christchurch.) Mr. Voice, who was leading, states that there was no indication that the road was in a dangerous state, and he drove straight over, the bank. The second car, which was following closely, also went over.

Mrs. Elliott sustained injuries to her chest, and .bruises,, and Mr. Elliott had a leg badly crushed. Miss Payton, another passenger, sustained internal injuries. They were conveyed to Rangiora for treatment. The cars were badly damaged.
