w ,-n h? activities of the Health Week Committee..a- .to inquire into the advisability of the carrying out of sanitary or other works in various localities and m accordance with that plan last year s committees called the attention of tne.City Council to the need of a proper drainage system and pure water supply at Karon and Ngaio, the* extension of drainage outfalls at Seatoun and beyond ,low water mark, the improvement Of tip arrangements for the Melrose district, improved drainage at, Northland and Lyall Bay, and the provision of a iiesh water swimming bath at Thorndon. lhe official replies to the recommendations, recently received by the chairman or the Executive Committee, state that ,tne drainage and water schemes for Karon and Ngaio.are now under way, that attention will be given the outfalls at beatoun, stormwater outfalls for the most part, and that the Melrose tip, which it was feared, might become a menace to the health of the district, is not being used for the dumping of any dangerous matter. Provision has been made in this year s estimates for rectifying present shortcomings as to the drainage from Stirling terrace, Northland, and. instructions have been given as to the clearing away of sand from the outfalls at Lyall The reply aiso sta**s tnat_a start has been made towards the provis lO n:6f baths for Thorndon by the purchase of a site in Murphy street.
