MELBOURNE, This Day
The Federal Prime Minister, Mr. S. M. Bruce, announced .that a Royal Commission will be appointed immediately to investigate the circumstances of three sugar transactions made by the Commonwealth on Bth September and Ist and Bth October, 1920, with James Nash and W. Dnvies. The matter was previously debated on the Supply Bill in August, and was later inquired into by the Accounts Committee, which reported that it was unable to complete its investigations owing "to the limitations imposed by the conditions under which it works. Mr. Bruce explained that in consequence of further information brought under his notice, the Cabinet has decided to appoint a High Court Judge as Royal Commissioner. Several members endeavoured to draw Mr. Bruce further, but he said the matter was sub judice, and it would be improper for the House to discuss details at that stage.
