APPALLING MOTOR ORDEAL

A party of motorist* touring in the Vosges have had a terrifying experience, ?.iS •? S, c Parlslan correspondent of the Daily Telegraph." A car belonging to Maitre Gerard, of the Nancy Bar was occupied by M. Gerard and his wife, M £runet, manager of the Nancy Municipal ineatre, and Madame Prunet, and a chauffeur. A mountain road not far from Colmar was being traversed when another automobile, which appeared to have got out of control, dashed into the Tear of M. Gerard's car and flung it over the side of the road, which at this pomt follows the edge of a precipice nearly 1000 ft high. Happily the wheels of the motor caught in a tree, and it was held suspended over the edge of the abyss, its occupants being thus placed in a position of appalling danger. A number-of other motorists who were passing came to the rescue, and tile most difficult task of getting M. Gerard and his companions out of tho car, which was threatening all the time to wrench away from the tree and hurl itself into the yawning ravine, was successfully accomplished. A few moments after all had been extricated the tree was uprooted and the car disappeared. M. and Madame Gerard and Madame Prunet were unconscious. Tho most serious injuries were sustained by Madame Prunet, one of whose arms was broken, while the four other victims were more or less bruised. The most remarkable feature of the accident is that not one of the occupants of the car was flung out and over the precipice.
