WESTERLY STORM AREA
A westerly storm area has prevailed over the week end, and considerable rain has fallen, particularly in districts with,' a westerly aspect. No rain fell in Wellington yesterday; and five degrees of frost werg recorded last evening. Seventy-two points of rain fell on the other side of the ranges—at Foxton— and 32 points at Wanganui. The rain- ! fall at Arthur's Pass measurfjl for the twenty-four hours ending at 9 a.m. yesterday was 4.30 inches. The forecast is for strong westerly winds, changing to southerly. The weather should be cold and changeable, and showery, particularly on all the western uoats^ There will be snow on the hither levels, frosts inland, and hard frosts in the South. The weather is not yet free from the westerly disturbance, but it is Jikely that the barometer will rise shortly, and anticyclonic conditions will prevail.
