A PICTURESQUE RUN
PASS COUNTRY UNDER SNOW.
ARTHUR'S PASS, This Day. After ■ a good run from Christchurch, the special train conveying the visitors to the tunnel arrived at Arthur's Pass at noon. The sky was clouded over and snow was falling on tho ranges- and from Cora Lynn there was snow all the way beside the line, and the miniature waterfalls had frozen. With the bold mountains for the background, the scene was of impressive grandeur, and one of the outstanding spectacles on tho trio was the wonderful view of the deep gorge of Waimakimi, especially near Otarama, at the site of . the proposed electrical power scheme. Though the weather was cold, it was not bleak, and the four hours' journey passed qmckly. It was broken once by a rush at-Springfield for refreshments West; Coasters in force met the train at Arthurs Pass, and gave the East boasters a rousmg reception, and there was much hand-shaking and cheering. Tho township itself was decorated, and presented a pretty scene, in its setting of
