NATIONAL PARK
TONGARIRO BOAED MEETS.
A meeting of the Tongariro National .fark Board was held in Wellington yesterday. There were present: Messrs. J. a. Thompson, Under-Secretary for Lands (chairman), R. A. Wright, M P Wellington; J. Cullen, 1.5.0. (Warden of the Park); E. Phillips Turner (sec retary of the State Forest "Service) • Professor Kirk, W. H. Field. M.P., and A G. Simpson (Hunterville). A motion was carried, expressing appreciation of the Government's action in enlarging the park by 832 acres. The Prisons Department advised that the formation of Bruce road was in hand, together with repairs to two of the bridges, over the Whakapapa and Tawhai streams.
The board decided to personally inspect the various sites suggested for the new hostel, the inspection to take place in January or February next. It was decided to accept with thanks, an offer from the National Park Sports Club of £25 towards the cost of erecting a stone but near the Blue Lake on Tongariro. ■
The chairman was authorised to spend op to £400 on the provision of extra hut accommodation during the summer time. It was reported tfiat the United States National Park Service had been asked to supply particulars and specifications of the huts erected on their parks.
