REPLY INEXPEDIENT

MUSSOLINI ANXIOUS NOT TO INCREASE TROUBLE.

(Received Ist August, noon.)

PARIS, 31st July. The "Petit Parisien" says that the Italian Ambassador informed Lord Curzon that Signor Mussolini thought it better not to answer the British request, believing that in the present state of the negotiations his intervention would not serve any useful purpose. He was particularly desirous not to increase the difficulties which remained to be settled between the French, • Belgian, and British Governments. > The "Petit Parisien" adds that for a similar reason Japan has also not thought it expedient to reply.
