The suburbs league took -a prominent part in selecting candidates at the various municipal elections, and the effect of the civic organisation on the city was amply demonstrated, by the return of almost all the selected candidates for tne local bodies. The president regretted, however, to note the disinclination of electors to attend the meetings in larger numbers when the- leagued candidates expressed their views, which seemed to indicate the lack of, interest in civic^ affairs, and was not encouraging to the candidates.
The league and other associations of the eastern suburbs had shown great interest in the construction of the proposed new traffic tunnel through Mount Victoria. In the opinion, of the league the council should proceed with • the works on the loan schedule and in this way provido work for the unemployed Tram fares had engaged the league's attention, and an effort was being made to secure a reduction in long-dis-tance fares.
