V.M.C.A. v. DIAMONDS.
Diamonds, .who the previous Saturday had defeated Waterside in the Charity Cup competition, were defeated on Saturday by V.M.C.A., who had occupied a very humble position on the championship ladedr. The game, played at Association Park, was of a fairly interesting description. The win registered by Young Men was mainly, due to accurate shooting, the forwards taking advantage of every opportunity that presented itself.
V.M.C.A. kicked off, and at once instituted an attack on the Diamond goal. The defence proved..equal to the occasion,,, and the Diamond, backs gave the. ball;to Bolt, who,'after-making a nice run down the line, centred to Ferguson. Tho.latter shot smartly and succeeded in passing the Y.M. goalkeeper. From the kick-off- Young Men again attacked strongly, and had the good fortune to be awarded a penalty. • M'Girr mado no mistake with..the.' I.'shot, and made the score .level.' The'position was unchanged when half-time arrived. Soon after the resumption Young Men obtained the lead as a result of a nice piece of work by Phillips and Baker, Smith scoring' a good goal. Shortly after this Young Men attacked-. again, and from a nicelyplaced corner kick by Baker. Trott headed the ball through. Two goals down, Diamonds made every endeavour to improve the position, and towards the end of the game, Finlay' succeeded in scoring again from a close range. The game ended: V.M.C.A. 3, Diamonds 2.
