LIKE A CORK.
New Zealand was likened unto acorlt by Mr.-T. W. Rhodes (Thames]l -yesterr day in the House o£ Representatives. He introduced this simile to show/ thai the Dominion would never go 1 down even under, the pressure of adversity. "I do not think that even if you had a'bad Government in power you would be able to keep New Zealand; down' permanently," ho said. "New Zealand is like' a cork in a bottle of water—it will keen bobbing up." ..■.■■■>■•*• . v Mr. Rhodes added that the /Reform Party had nothing to fearby going S, the country at,any moment: °r^:
didly admit that I am not after an election," he remarked. "It is too .strenuous a time altogether. But that is not the point. I don't think any of us on the Reform side have any occasion to fear. That is more than can be said, by other members of this House."
