BULLOCKS FOR EXPORT
"A SECOND CONSIGNMENT
LOADING FOR MELBOURNE.
The steamer Waihora is loading at the Railway Wharf a second consignment of New Zealand bullocks for Australia. The cargo, will be slightly smaller than that shipped by the same consignees three weeks ago, the beasts numbering 720 head. All have been purchased from stations in the North Island, and the quality of the stock is said to be even superior to that of the previous shipment- :
The bullocks consist principally of a very fine class of Hereford shorthorns, which are being consigned to various agents in Melbourne for sale in that city on 19th July. Tho loading operations are being conducted by means of slings, the races formerly used having been abandoned. • A number of experienced stockmen from Australia are taking delivery of ■ the animals as they arrivo at the ship's side in railway trucks, and the awkward work of stowing the bullocks away in the specially constructed stalls aboard the vessel was proceeding smoothly this morning. The departure of the Waihora. is being postponed on account of delays occasioned on the railways by.the slips oh'the Main Trnnlr limytiufit is ■'expected'that;-she' will leave Wellington on Tuesday.' A third shipment has been arranged as soon as the steamer can return to the Dominion, and it is likely that others will fellow. '! '
A large number of the -beasts consigned to Australia. last month died en route as a result of bad weather. Good prices were realised for the remainder, and .it is anticipated that the present shipment will sell at an even higher average figure when .offered on tie Australian market. /;,
